Compute Express Link (CXL) 2.0 ecosystem

20/09/2023

XConn showcased a comprehensive ecosystem for Compute Express Link (CXL) 2.0, demonstrating the CXL 2.0 specification in action from the host to the device. The ecosystem is capable of scaling up to 15 TB to support "Just a Bunch of Memory" (JBOM) applications required by HPC and AI environments.

The Apollo Switch which supports CXL 2.0 interoperates with Samsung DRAM Memory Expander supporting CXL, Micron CZ120 memory expansion module, Memory eXpander Controller (MXC) for CXL from Montage Technology, and the high-speed CPU interconnect (CMM) for CXL from Smart Modular Technologies. The switch is a hybrid interconnect solution supporting CXL 1.1 and 2.0 as well as PCIe Gen 5 specifications in the same system. This flexibility offers system designers flexibility to support every application with one chip. The switch is backwards compatible with CXL 1.1 and supports PCIe Gen 5 in hybrid mode. Apollo also supports PCIe Gen 5 mode for AI-intensive applications.
