Teledyne e2v Explores Fast Data Routing for Space Usage

07/10/2023

Teledyne e2v is working on a space computing reference design that is fully radiation-tolerant (RT) and can facilitate high-speed data routing in space applications. The design is based on an Arm Cortex-A72 and has multiple high-speed interfaces to process and route data from various sources, including RF front ends, image sensors, and radars. The design is intended for use in Earth observation, SATCOM applications, defence in space, and space debris monitoring.

The design incorporates Teledyne's radiation-tolerant Qormino QLS1046-Space processing platform and Microchip's VSC8541RT (a radiation-tolerant single port Gigabit Ethernet copper PHY) and VSC8574RT (a radiation-tolerant, low-power, quad-port Gigabit Ethernet transceiver) data comms technology. The design enables high-speed transfers between the QSL1046-Space and other devices placed on different accompanying boards within the satellite or spacecraft. Teledyne e2v and Microchip presented papers on their involvement in edge-located processing and inter-board communication for space deployments at the EDHPC 2023 (European Data Handling & Data Processing Conference) in Juan-les-Pins.
